Active control of the vacuum field in nanomechanical photonic crystal structures

Abstract

We investigate a photonic-crystal-based nano-opto-electro-mechanical system which allows controlling the spatial localization of the vacuum electromagnetic field. Large modulations of the optical Q-factor are predicted and experimentally demonstrated.
