Observation of surface Brillouin scattering in microstructured optical fibers

Abstract

We report the observation of surface Brillouin scattering in a small-core and high air-filling fraction microstructured optical fiber and show that this new type of light scattering is highly sensitive to the air-hole microstructure, thus providing a passive and efficient way to control it.
