Demonstration of a Phonon Laser with a Nanosphere Levitated in an Optical Tweezer

Abstract

A phonon laser based on the center-of-mass oscillations of a silica nanosphere, levitated in an optical tweezer under vacuum, is proposed and developed. The observed dynamics are shown to result from stimulated emission of phonons.
