Origin of robust exceptional points: Restricted bulk zero-mode

Abstract

We unveil the origin of robust exceptional points in photonic lattices: without invoking sublattice symmetry, this exceptional point is a restricted bulk zero-mode that meets certain condition only in the site adjacent to the boundary.
