Abstract
Various emerging applications can benefit from integrated photonic circuits due to the size, weight, power, and cost advantage enabled by high-level of integration. In many cases, the wavelength of operation of such systems lies beyond standard telecom/datacom ranges requiring development of novel photonic platforms. We show recent progress in this rapidly evolving field with a focus on chip-scale sources operating below 1.2 µm wavelength to facilitate system-on-a-chip functionality.
