Brownian motion of mechanical resonators due to optical-absorption induced spatially varying thermal bath

Abstract

We experimentally investigate the thermal behavior of mechanical modes embedded in a phononic crystal membrane under optical-absorption induced non-uniform thermal bath, through measurements of Brownian motion, and identify important design principles for mechanical sensing.
