Laser generated relativistic electrons - the key to fast ignition and hard x-ray sources

Abstract

Laser plasma interactions in the relativistic regime produce uniquely intense fluxes of relativistic electrons, which enable important new scientific applications, notably fast ignition and intense hard x-ray sources. The challenging new physics and the status and prospects of the applications will be discussed.
