Towards Joule-scale few-cycle pulses — progress and challenges of short-pulse pumped OPCPA

Abstract

The Petawatt Field Synthesizer is based on short-pulse-pumped optical parametric amplification (OPA) for generating few-cycle, Joule-scale pulses (~ 5 fs, > 3 J). Stabilizing the pump-seed timing to ±100 fs allowed for the first OPA experiments, which are reported here.
