Laser ion acceleration from tailored solid targets with micron-scale channels

Abstract

Using particle-in-cell simulations and theoretical estimates, we show the possibility of generating GeV protons from the interaction of multi-petawatt laser pulse with a structured target containing a micron-scale channel filled with relativistically transparent plasma.
