Residual Stress Determination Using Holographic Interferometry

Abstract

Residual stresses are present in virtually every part as a result of manufacturing processes such as welding, casting, machining, injection molding, etc.. These stresses can have a strong influence on the resistance of parts to failure by fatigue or stress corrosion cracking or by loss of dimensional stability. In general, such stresses cannot be calculated and must be determined experimentally.
