Abstract
CT has been demonstrated to produce quantitative images of oil/water distributions within the cross sections of sandstone such as that found within oil producing reservoir materials (1). The oil fraction of each image element is computed (2) from a comparison of a core containing oil and water (experimental core) with two reference cores (one containing only oil and a second containing aqueous KI (all aqueous phases were traced with 1 molar KI)). This oil fraction is the fluid composition that occupies the void spaces within the sandpack. Figure 1(a-d) illustrates the components of the oil fraction image.
