Abstract

Samples of composition Ba_1-xCe_xMgF_4+x were prepared by heating in dry nitrogen. At Ce concentrations below 10 mole %, X-rays showed the BaMgF₄ structure¹. Above that composition a new structure appears. Excitation spectra of samples containing 0.3, 3 and 10 mole % Ce are shown in Figure 1. The excitation peaks shift to longer wavelength as the Ce concentration increases.
