Abstract
Perylene crystals of the α-phase are prototypes for excimer formation, since the molecules are arranged in sandwich configuration. The prominent feature of the perylene fluorescence spectrum is the appearance of two spectral contributions, an actual excimer-type emission and the Y-emission, which has been attributed to a partially relaxed excimer.
