Abstract

We report single-photon interference in modulation sidebands produced by a pair of electro-optic integrated Mach-Zehnder interferometers operating in single-sideband mode. The modulation and detection scheme employed makes possible the use of the BB84 four-state protocol for quantum cryptographic key distribution. Experiments were carried out at 1550 nm, over a 20-km-long standard single-mode fiber.
