Abstract
We report on the experimental observation of the EPR state of spins of two separate atomic samples. The entangled state is generated via interaction of the samples with an off-resonant pulse of light. The lifetime of the entangled state of the order of 1 millisecond has been observed. Communication protocols based on this atomic entanglement including teleportation of atomic states, quantum memory and quantum repeaters will be discussed.
