Abstract

Recently we have demonstrated chaos in a single mode homogenously broadened two-photon Raman laser1 which possesses extremely high gain ~ 10% cm–1.2 Here we consider the oscillation periods of the pulsating instabilities also observed in this system and identify them as providing evidence of mode splitting in a single mode homogeneously broadened laser.
