Abstract

Optical wavelength division multiplexing is a method by which optical signals of various wavelengths are multiplexed and transmitted in a single fiber. This should prove useful in high speed digital transmission because of the large transmission capacity achievable without increasing the bit rate. It will also be effective in applications to video services in subscriber loops.1) The feasibility of wavelength division multiplexing transmission has recently been demonstrated by Ishio et al.2) and Sugimoto et al.3). Three optical signals have been multiplexed and demultiplexed using descrete lenses and a CdS prism.
