Abstract

A photosensor specifically designed for use in an integrated-optical intercept receiver has been designed, fabricated and tested. Integrated optical devices, such as the hybrid integrated optics spectrum analyzer, exhibit unique physical properties and geometry that require new photosensor array designs. The most important physical requirements of the array include minimal pixel pitch, low crosstalk, large signal dynamic range detectability, and adaptability to a hybrid IO structure. In addition, the access time per pixel for the entire array must be of the order of 2 μsec to be capable of signal identification in many proposed system applications and exploiting to the fullest the acousto-optic interaction. The optical response characterization of the silicon-based photosensor array is reported below.
