Abstract

Diffused channel waveguides in planar glass substrates have been fabricated by groups in many countries.1-5 A process for making multimode waveguides with propagation losses of <0.05 dB/cm and fiber-waveguide coupling losses of ~0.25 dB/connection is reported here. The structure and properties of straights, 1×2, and 1×16 optical splitters are described.
