Abstract
Integrated optical switch arrays in Ti:LiNbO3 are promising devices for broadband signal switching especially for optical video-network systems. The most studied electrooptic switch applied in switch arrays is the directional coupler.1 To eliminate the bends and, therefore, the bending losses, in directional coupler-type networks, we have developed the X-switch by letting straight waveguides intersect.2 Further advantages of X-switch-type networks are the greater packing density3 and the easier tuning of the switches, since instead of a reverse delta beta electrode configuration a simple two-electrode configuration is used.
