Abstract

High speed switching of a waveguide switch is very attractive for OTDR (Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer), because it enables to get information on optical transmission line with short dead zone (unmeasurable length). However, relatively high crosstalk and polarization dependent characteristics of conventional waveguide switches prevent from using for OTDR application. This paper presents a practical Ti:LiNbO3 waveguide switch for OTDR applications, especially in optical subscriber loop transmission systems.
