Abstract

Photonic integrated circuits (PIC), consisting of active and passive optical components fabricated on a single III-V semiconductor substrate, are important for lightwave technologies in the future. We describe in this paper the monolithic integration of a 1.5-μm distributed feedback (DFB) laser, a passive Y-branching waveguide, and a monitoring p-i-n detector, grown entirely by MOCVD.
