Quadric Surfaces: Some Derivations and Applications

Abstract

Quadric surfaces are described by a second-order equation in Cartesian coordinates. This equation generates 17 unique surfaces, which include as special cases the common conicoid aspheres used in optical design: spheres, ellipsoids, paraboloids, and hyperboloids.
