Abstract
Measurements of aerosol-induced laser breakdown thresholds have been made for liquid droplets at four wavelengths using a pulsed Nd:YAG laser (λ = 1.06,0.53,0.35,0.26 μm). For droplets with a diameter around 50 μm, the threshold breakdown intensity decreases with decreasing wavelength. Thresholds are nearly independent of droplet refractive index at the near-IR wavelength (λ =1.06 μm), but show increasing sensitivity to refractive index at shorter visible and ultraviolet wavelengths.
