Fe(CO)5 multiphoton ionization mass spectra

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Using molecular beam apparatus and a modified quadrupole mass spectrometer, the multiphoton ionization mass spectra of Fe(CO)5 vapor was investigated by irradiation with a XeCl excimer laser. By changing the laser intensity and sample pressure, we measured the ion peaks of Fe+, CO+, FeC+, Fe(CO)n+(n=1,2,,5) and Fe2(CO)m+(m=49). The ion intensity of Fe+ was the strongest among these ion peaks in all experimental conditions. In comparison with Fe+, the ion intensity of Fe2(CO)m+(m=49) was extremely weak.
