Abstract

The typical cemented achromatic doublet has one free degree of freedom which may be used to correct spherical aberration. In addition, it is possible to choose the glasses of the doublet so that either coma or secondary spectrum may be corrected. We have developed both a numerical and an analytical method for searching for pairs of glasses. With these methods, we were able to conduct an extensive search and to find a glass pair capable of correcting both coma and secondary spectrum at the same time.
