Abstract
The potential of axial-gradient optics has been realized for decades. For many years, the potential of axial-gradients was academic, since the material was either not available or available in very restricted thicknesses and formulations. In 1996, LightPath Technologies did a public stock offering to finance the commercialization of its patented technology for producing axial-gradient glass, known under the registered trademark of GRADIUM® glass. These glasses, the GSF family, have similar chemical, mechanical and dispersive properties to homogeneous SF glasses and were initially produced in finished thicknesses up to 14.7 mm.
