Abstract

Glass manufacturers and optical industry tend to reduce the number of glass types. Obvioulsly, economics is the driver for this development. Leading glass manufacturers, like Schott, still offer up to about 200 different glass types, but only 56 are declared as prefered types. Some types appear on the glass map to be quite close, it can hardly be seen why all this types are needed.
