Abstract

Commercial optical design software routinely contains a programming language which can be used to augment and/or extend the optimization control and/or the analytical capabilities of the basic software package. In particular, we extensively use CODE V1 and its macro language in the design and analysis of optical systems. One example describes a method to calculate, remove or reduce the aspheric departure of a surface during the optimization process. A second example enables the designer to evaluate the dispersion characteristics of several materials over a given spectral band.
