Abstract
In recent years, the Chinese optical industry has been growing with an amazing speed. The main driving force of this strong growth comes from overseas and private investments. The optical companies of overseas investments and joint ventures, literally hundreds of them with capitals mostly from Taiwan and Hong Kong and partly from industrial countries, are spreading from the southeast coast to southern China. The private optical enterprises, most them of small to medium scale, are largely concentrated in the provinces of Zhejiang and Jiangsu in southern China. At the same time, parts of the old sector of the industry also find new livingness with many state-owned factories carrying out reform and changing their status to stock companies, which often results in significant improvement of their productivities. This paper outlines the current status of optical design and fabrication in China.
