Ray-pathing: A Generalized Extension and Possible Alternative to Conventional Ray Aiming

Abstract

Given two points at opposite ends of a sequence of optical surfaces, simultaneously determine the points on each surface of the ray (i.e. path) that connects them. Computationally, this requires repeated solving of symmetric tridiagonal or banded-diagonal matrix equations.
