Broad-band Efficient Edge Couplers for Compact Silicon Photonic Circuits

Abstract

CMOS-compatible broad-band and efficient edge couplers are presented in this paper. The couplers are based on SiON ridge waveguides and silicon inverted tapers, no requirement on partially etching in fabrication processes. The measured coupling losses of ~ 2dB are proved with the calculation results, the broad-band range of more than 100nm range.
