Abstract

This paper will provide a review of recent works towards flexible computing and coding/decoding of high-base numbers in the optical domain. By exploiting degenerate and non-degenerate four-wave mixing (FWM) and m-ary phase-shift keying (PSK) and quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) formats, we achieve: i) two- and three-input quaternary/octal/hexadecimal addition and subtraction; ii) hexadecimal coding/decoding.
