Abstract

We report experimental and modeling results for the behavior of metallic metamaterials (MMs) in a guided wave configuration aimed to investigate the potential for silicon photonics applications in the near-infrared (λ =1.5µm). The ability to control the energy flow in a silicon waveguide based on the interaction of the evanescent tail with the MMs layer constitutes a real opportunity to design a novel class of photonic devices.
