Abstract

The low infrared loss of TE modes in planar metallic waveguides has already been pointed out.1 Our interest is to develop low-loss infrared two-dimensional waveguides. As a first step in this development, we consider the infrared losses in a rectangular metallic waveguide of height a and width b. The loss induced by the metallic sidewalls is high, unless the waveguide is very wide.
