Abstract

The Dirichlet-to-Neumann (DtN) operator of a unit cell maps the wave field on the boundary of the unit cell to its normal derivative. It can be used to develop efficient numerical methods for analyzing photonic crystals. We develop a boundary integral equation method and a multipole method for constructing DtN maps and present examples for computing band structures and transmission spectra.
