Abstract
We investigate the fabrication of new kind of light sources based on colloidal quantum dots inside photonic crystal slabs in the near-IR (1200–1800 nm). The fabricated structures comprise a wide area triangular photonic crystal slab made on Si. HgTe colloidal quantum dots have been infiltrated inside the holes of the photonic crystal slabs. Optical characterization by room-temperature photoluminescence spectroscopy shows strong light emission centered in 1550 nm which is also linearly polarized. This light could be used for optical detection of bio-substances or for multiple-wavelength telecom emitters, with the added advantage of being a cheap and/or disposable source.
