Compact Etched Beam Splitters in Weakly Guiding GaAs/AlGaAs Waveguides

Abstract

Compact etched beam splitters in weakly guiding waveguides are designed, fabricated and characterized. 2-D FDTD calculations and experimental trends agree for varying incidence angle and gap dimension. Measurements indicate 10–30% power transmission over submicron area.
