Abstract
The application of the spectral-index (SI) method to analyzing the wavelength response of a filter consisting of two closely separated waveguides with ribs of different geometries is described. The modal indices (ns, nas) of the TE or TM lowest-order symmetric and antisymmetric-like supermodes are obtained from a single dispersion equation.1 The SI method is a fully two-dimensional modeling technique, previously established for single rib waveguides2 and symmetric couplers? that provides an accurate representation of the field profiles.
