Performance of fiber-optic devices in AM applications

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Lightwave systems for CATV super trunk and trunk applications have been deployed in several architectures. In this review we look at the fundamentals of AM transmission links using real, manufacturable optoelectronic components, and then we focus on achieved results in several applications. We conclude with an analysis of our performance to date with respect to the fundamental limits imposed by devices and the transmission media itself.
