Abstract

Future optical communication requires low loss fiber filters for wave length division multiplexing and rejection of unwanted pump light from fiber amplifiers. Some are currently available based on interference filters1 or rare earth doping.2 Efficient optical fiber reflection filters can be made by fabricating a Bragg grating on a polished fiber by two beam interference and then etching the grating into the fiber.3
