Directional couplers in a high index silica waveguide

Abstract

Silica-on-silicon waveguides are of growing interest for passive optical components and hybrid optical motherboards. Maximum functionality on a motherboard requires the optical interconnect to have high packing density and low coupling loss to lasers without compromising waveguide components or the fiber interface.
