Abstract
Recently a novel wavelength-tunable laser based on an interferometric principle was shown to be capable of a tuning range as wide as 23nm together with a sidemode suppression ratio of >210 dB.1 This Y coupled cavity integrated interferometric injection (YCCI3) laser (fig. 1) can be employed in coherent and wavelength division multiplexing systems. High speed wavelength switching between different channels, AM and FM in the GHz range was achieved with this structure.2 It can thus be employed as a multifunctional basic element in photonic integrated circuits. In this contribution, we report on experimental waveguide studies for ultimate reduction of curvature radii without loosing the excellent device properties.
