A new structure broad-band traveling wave Ti:LiNbO3 optical phase modulator

Abstract

Broadband optical modulators are required for optical communication and optical measurement. The modulation bandwidth is limited by velocity mismatching between a microwave signal and an optical signal. Also for practical use, 50Ω characteristic impedance matching and low driving voltage are required to modulators. To solve these problems, we adopted a new structure with the buffer layers partly removed. (Fig. 1)
