Abstract

It has been shown experimentally that solitons can propagate in optical fibers for thousands of kilometers when loss is compensated for by suitable amplification.1 As known, a possible amplification mechanism is stimulated Raman scattering (SRS). Various authors1-3 have used simple models for the nonlinear interaction between pump and soliton.
