Abstract

Pr3+-doped fluorozirconate fiber amplifiers have been demonstrated to provide net-gains higher than 25 dB in a broad band centered on the 1300-nm communication window [1,2]. We have developed a quantitative numerical model and systematically analysed the performance improvements that can be achieved through fiber design or the use of host glasses providing a longer lifetime for the metastable state.
