Abstract

The beam propagation method (BPM) has proven to be a powerful simulation technique in integrated photonics. The method is basically a numerical solution procedure for the paraxial wave equation or the Schrödinger equation,1 as time-harmonic electromagnetic (optical) waves are approximately described by the paraxial wave equation.2
