Abstract

TE/TM converters are a key component in OEIC’s for coherent optical system applications. In particular, they are required in balanced polarization diversity heterodyne receivers with constant 45° operation. First passive TE/TM mode converters have been demonstrated using asymmetrically periodic loaded rib waveguides [1] and laterally tilted periodic rib waveguides [2].
