Abstract

Optical networks offer the possibility of utilizing the huge bandwidth of the fiber by wavelength division multiplex (WDM) techniques. The WDM data streams in these networks will be transmitted e.g. via dispersion compensated standard single-mode fibre (SMF) links and may be routed by passive wavelength routers, transparent crossconnects (XC) or add/drop multiplexers.
