Abstract

Ultracompact high efficiency 90 degree bends based on a silica waveguide (99.4%) for a wavelength of 1.55µm and a polymer waveguide (99.3%) for a wavelength of 1.33µm are achieved by hybrid integration of limited photonic crystal (PhC) regions composed of air holes. For both cases, diffractions which limit the maximum bend efficiency are effectively suppressed by use of a micro genetic algorithm (µGA). A new ring resonator configuration using hybrid PhC and CWG structures is followed. This new configuration show wide design freedom for controlling FSR and Q factor.
